WHAT A DAY THIS HAS BEEN, WHAT A RARE MOOD I'M IN....

What a beautiful day! The sun was shining, the morning chill had dissipated so I went for a really great bike ride.

While I'm sure the people I met during my ride have not read my blog, most of them were very courteous--from smiling and initiating a wave of recognition to another rider, to responding in kind when I initiated the wave.

Of course, a few didn't respond, but I proved my civility by not giving the finger or any other sign of distaste.

Alll, in all, I know I'm on the right track because practicing the three C's promotes a three C response. And, if enough people get into that habit, well, who knows how much good can happen to all of us.

SO?

24 hours have passed since I blogged the "3C's".

Has anyone checked out if they noticed anyone who practiced any one of them?

Unfortunately I personally blew it this morning and did the exact opposite of "civil". Thank goodness my partner had the decency to be considerate and approach me in a positive manner. It completely wiped out all of my negative thoughts and brought me down to earth. Thanks, Linda, for being you and not letting me continue to act like a child.

What about the rest of you? Were you positive? Were you negative? Did you notice anything at all approaching civility, courtesy or considerateness either in yourselves or anyone else.?

From this point on, let's all be aware of our actions and interactions.

I'm in the throes of writing a play and, at the same time, expanding on a project close to my heart. It's called LIVING HEALTH and I'll keep anyone who is interested, up to date.

CREATING A NATIONAL MOVEMENT

I've discussed this issue in past blogs, but I need this particular issue to resonate with a few, then more than a few, then a few hundred, then a few thousand, and, finally, I would be satisfied with a few million of my fellow Americans. (And, who, knows, perhaps the whole world.)

I call it "THE THREE C's", the threesome in which a majority of us is completely lacking.

Of course, it's much more noticeable in our politicians--local, state and national--but I notice it every day. Cyclists ignoring a friendly wave from another cyclist, drivers with cell phones permanently attached to their ear, cutting off, riding two lanes or just being oblivious to the dangers they can cause. I'm sure many of you can come up with your own pet peeves.

Folks, there is a disconnect pervading our culture and I feel it's becoming more prevalent every day.

The first "C" is Civility. Being polite to one another is the foundation of the three "C's" The lack of it is causing our society to become less of a society and more of there's me and the rest of you don't count.

The second "C" is Courteousness. It means showing good manners and embracing civility. It means listening and hearing instead of just hearing and then rejecting. It means listening to someonelse's opinion without trying to either shout him down, beat him up or, worse, shooting him/her.

The final "C" is Considerateness. It embodies civility, courtesy and an awareness for another's feelings and/or circumstances. Considerateness, is deliberate, reflective and prudent.

Is there anyone out there who feels as I do and would like to see the "C's" become a national movement. It won't cost any thing except a really important change in attitude and action.

I would really appreciate someone who has national stature, to take this and make it happen.

More in future blogs.
